Marie

Marie Pham Clinic Manager

Marie graduated from Physiotherapy at Monash University in 2010. She has been focusing on private practice ever since and has worked with a variety of clients from sports injuries to office related problems.  Her main philosophy behind management is to identify the causes of the problem, to best treat the problem. Marie’s approach is more hands on and to identify areas of weaknesses to strive for a more balanced and stronger body.

Marie has been instructing pilates since the beginning of her career, and aims to stretch and strengthen areas to target the causes of injury. She also has a strong interest in improving overall fitness, particularly with her involvement, in futsal, taekwondo, rockclimbing, weight training, tennis, netball and snowboarding. Marie’s method of training involves activating specific muscles and working on building strength and endurance.

 

 

Marilena

Marliena Yammas

Marilena has been working as a Physiotherapist since 2009, both in a private practice setting and in corporate health. Marilena enjoys treating a wide range of pathologies, particularly spinal and lower limb conditions and has very hands on approach to treating. She also enjoys injury prevention through accurate assessment and management of biomechanics related issues.

Through the experience gained in both the private and corporate health setting has provided Marilena and outstanding understanding of posture related pathologies and their ongoing management. Furthermore, she thoroughly enjoys encouraging her patients to set goals and monitoring these throughout the rehabilitation process.

She has completed Level 1 and 2 Pilates courses through Dance Medicine Australia and has completed her Dry Needling qualification.

In her spare time Marilena enjoys dancing and jogging, and has a background in gymnastics.

 

ElkaElka Troedson

Elka Troedson gained a Health Science Counselling degree from Bond University in Queensland. She then went on to study Physiotherapy at La Trobe University in Victoria, Australia. Since graduating she has worked in private practice working with a diverse client base including musculoskeletal, sports injuries, paediatrics, aged care and neurological conditions.  Elka has recently returned to Melbourne from working as a Physiotherapist in Hong Kong, where she worked in a renowned sports medicine clinic along side leading medical specialists and surgeons.

Elka has her DMA Clinical Pilates certification and has extensive experience instructing Pilates in group and individual settings. With a dance background of 14 years, Elka has a keen interest in treating dance and sport injuries, and enjoys using Clinical Pilates as another treatment approach for her clients.

Elka has worked with amateur AFL football teams and the Hong Kong Football Club rugby teams where she developed her skills in treating and managing sports related injuries.

Elka’s approach to Physiotherapy is about incorporating manual therapy and exercise prescription to allow her clients to reach their fullest potential and gain their best health outcomes.  As a Physiotherapist who focuses on using manual techniques, Elka has highly developed skills in treating musculoskeletal conditions including spinal dysfunction, peripheral joint injuries and orthopaedic rehabilitation.

She has a strong passion for health and fitness and loves being outdoors. Her hobbies include hiking, Pilates and Yoga. Elka loves working with people and is enthusiastic about returning to Melbourne and being part of the Bodycare team. 

 

Myotherapy

Danya

Danya D’Andrea – Adv. Dip. Myotherapy (VCHE)

Danya completed her Advanced Diploma of Myotherapy 6 years ago at the Victorian college of health care education. She is an association member and recognized by all Australian health funds.Danya enjoys being a Myotherapist because she has the ability to assess and physically treat myofascial pain and injury which when treated she enjoys seeing the improvement in well-being, mobility and movement. Danya has always had an interest in the human body and is fascinated by its functions, which lead her into Myotherapy.

Outside of work in summer you will catch Danya at one of the many beaches around the Mornington Peninsula or in winter at Mount Buller as she is an avid snowboarder.

 

 

 

Alvaro

Alvaro Torres – Myotherapist

Born and raised in Bogota, Columbia Alvaro arrived in Melbourne in 2005 to study Shiatsu and Oriental Therapies. During this time he developed a chronic lower back injury, which made him try various treatment modalities including remedial massage, which inspired him to study Myotherapy. His injury has helped him understand chronic pain and its management. He enjoys healing people recovering from injuries that stopped them from enjoying life through movement and encouraging others to move into a more active lifestyle. When he gets the chance he loves to rock climbing and bouldering. He also enjoys crossfit and cycling.

 

 

 

 

Jake

Jake Leslie – Remedial Therapist

Studied at The Australia College of Sports Therapy where he graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Sports Therapy at the end of 2012 and is registered as a remedial therapist with dry needling qualifications.

Jake currently works part time as a personal trainer, as well as work with Sunbury united rugby league club & Melbourne storm development as a therapist/trainer working with the players on injury prevention, rehabilitation, soft tissue work, strapping and taping along with game day duties.

Jake thoroughly enjoys working in the clinic and the multidisciplinary approach. Jake’s plans in the future are to broaden his studies into the sports rehabilitation field and continue work develop his affiliations and with sporting clubs and athletes.

Jake enjoys seeing the transformations that his clients make, but returning them back to a pain free lifestyle through the combination of his hands on work and advice surrounding exercise management and prescription.

Pilates

VanessaVanessa Alford – Pilates Manager
Vanessa Alford is a physiotherapist, nutritionist and clinical pilates instructor whose passion is in health and fitness. After graduating as a Physiotherapist in 2002, she spent the next eight years working in various locations around Australia. During this time she also completed a post-graduate certificate in Nutrition, taught English in Thailand and worked in academia in Singapore.

She has always had a love for sport and fitness and enjoys helping others reach their full potential in this area. She has over ten years experience as a clinical pilates instructor and has consulted to corporate companies on the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. In addition to teaching clinical pilates and managing the Bodycare pilates clinic, Vanessa is currently doing a PhD in Indigenous Health through the University of Melbourne and presents nationally accredited sports and fitness courses to adults and school students.

She was previously an elite long distance runner, finishing second in the 2005 Bangkok marathon and third in the 2005 Melbourne marathon in a time of two hours and fifty-four minutes. She has written a book about her experience of running marathons, which will be published later this year.

Podiatry

GaryGary Johnstone – Podiatrist

Gary Johnstone obtained a Bachelor of Podiatry at La Trobe University, completing his final placement in London, gaining a broader perspective of Podiatry and strengthening his treatment skills.

Having over 7 years of clinical experience, Gary has a particular interest in sports podiatry, biomechanics and in-grown toenail surgery.

Gary has played football for many years, currently playing with St Kilda City Football club. He has also enjoyed playing interstate and at VFL level. He now also adds triathlon to his hobby list and completed his first Ironman event in 2014.

Gary brings together a strong interest in sports science and first hand experience in treating the vast musculoskeletal injuries related to endurance and competitive team sports . Gary utilizes up to date techniques relating to muscle strengthening, stretching, strapping/padding , footwear and orthotic therapy.

 

Matt

Matthew Bull – Podiatrist

Matthew Bull Obtained a Bachelor of Podiatry with honors at La Trobe University. His thesis titled ‘Effects of Foot Orthoses on Foot Plantar Pressures’ enabled him to gain extensive knowledge on the mechanisms by which foot orthoses influence foot posture and weight distribution beneath our feet.

Matt has a strong sporting background having captained cricket teams at representative level and continues to play as a member of the Strathmore Cricket Club.

Matt has a passion for lower limb musculoskeletal injuries and biomechanics, incorporating his research and clinical skills into podiatric practice. During assessment of running gait and technique he also considers head and neck position, spinal rotation, and arm swing, to better understand the role of proximal stability in lower limb injury.

Matt understands the importance of footwear in the treatment of lower limb conditions and has the skills to assess your current footwear and guide you through the vast array of footwear options, based on different supportive features.

 

Reception

LeaLea Meletis – Principal Receptionist

Lea is the principal receptionist at the clinic. She has an extensive background in the medical and Allied Health industry, and has been with BodyCare since we opened our doors. Lea is the bubbly personality and the front of the house and is exceptionally committed to the wellbeing of all of the clients and Bodycare. You will always be greeted with a warm and friendly welcome each time you attend Bodycare.

 

 

 

 

 

Rach

Rachel Meletis – Receptionist

Rachel is a student currently enrolled at Victoria University completing her Bachelor of Business in Marketing. She have been working for Bodycare for the past year and a half and chose to work in the allied health industry as a receptionist because she enjoys the interaction with people and knowing that when they leave our clinic they are on their way to recovery. Rachel finds it very rewarding being associated with a clinic like Bodycare and finds that being an active person she is able pick up advice that is passed around the office to prevent future injuries.

Rachel is a  very creative person who loves to sing and dance in her spare time. She is also a big indoor soccer fan.
